January-February 2006 Newsletter
Introduction
Dear Friends,
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! Well we are gearing up for action packed year of Bringing Life to the Nations! One aspect of the work of LCI is our short-term volunteer trips here in the U.S. and around the world. We have a heart to come along side people that are on the front lines of ministries and help to support the vision that God has given them to touch their communities. We do this by inviting people, just like you who are willing to come and serve. We welcome people that have a servant’s heart and want to use their skills God has given them to invest in other people’s lives. We also have a heart to form partnerships with individuals, churches and Para-church ministries and in the process connect these relationships, which in turn opens many new ministry opportunities. We hope that you will join us this year in making a difference in peoples lives. Whether through prayer going on a trip or a financial donation we truly need you your help this year. We have added two new trips this year to Denmark to work with a ministry called Healing Waters and in Fiji where we will be working with a couple local churches doing ministry in villages. We will also continue with are projects that we have been doing the past few years to Uganda, India, Mississippi, New York, Los Angeles, Georgia, Mexico and Costa Rica. So please join us as we go forth and Bring Life to the Nations!
Mexico
We finished our 2005 season with a trip to Tijuana, Mexico to work with our friends at Baja Vision. It was a wonderful way to end a wonderful year of trips. We made breakfast for the children at the orphanage, helped paint a new apartment for the battered women’s shelter. And worked with the children at the orphanage doing crafts and decorations for Christmas. It was a wonderful weekend of bringing Gods love in real practical ways!
End of the Spear- Event
The weekend of January 20th a film called End of the Spear will be opening in theaters. End of the Spear follows this remarkable true story of five missionaries who dared to make contact with the most savage tribe in history, the Waodani, who live deep in the Amazon basin of Ecuador. This story was made famous by LIFE magazine and the book Through Gates of Splendor by Elizabeth Elliot. Many people are familiar with the story of the missionaries, but very few have heard the rest of the story from the perspective of the tribe and that is what the film direction comes from tribe telling the story. On the 22nd LCI will be hosting an event that will be inviting churches and ministry in the Westside of LA to discuss key points of the movie and to have each ministry share what missions opportunities they may have for the year, followed with a time of Worship and Prayer. We know that when the people see the movie they will be moved and want to know how they can get involved to make a difference. We are hoping this event will nurture that so people can see and here from local churches and ministries and hopefully get plugged into making a difference in their community and the world. Check out the movie! www.endofthespear.com
