Life Connections International-End of 2008 Newsletter

December 24th, 2008

Dear friends,

At key times in my life the Lord has used the book of Joshua to encourage me to keep going in what I feel He’s called me to do with the ministry of LCI. The past couple of months I have been reading over Joshua 1.

In this chapter, Moses has just passed away and Joshua is called to take the leadership role for the Israelites.  He was ordered by God to lead them into the Promised Land. Putting myself in Joshua’s shoes, I can see how his call could have been pretty overwhelming: first, he’s having to follow in the footsteps of Moses, one of Israel’s greatest leaders up to this point in their history; second, he begins receiving direct orders from God telling him exactly what to do.

Being human, I am sure Joshua had a lot of fears and doubts that he could actually step into this role for Israel.  God was faithful to encourage Joshua though; in this one chapter the Lord told Joshua to not be terrified and discouraged once, and the Lord told Joshua to be strong and courageous three times.  How could Joshua possibly do this?  Because God made him a promise – “the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)  Then, the Israelites confirmed his calling and said to Joshua, “Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you as he was with Moses.” (Joshua 1:17)  Joshua 1 ends with the Israelites encouraging Joshua in a similar way God had, with a statement telling Joshua be strong and courageous.

I know we all need to know that God is with us at all times and that He is directing our steps and looking out for us.  As Christians, we can stand on the promises in the Bible that tell us He is with us and that He will never leave us our forsake us!  Sometimes, though, we also need our peers to speak life into us and confirm and encourage us in our calling.  I go through different emotions at times walking out this ministry. Sometimes I am afraid and do not feel strong, and I become easily discouraged. Other times, when I stand by faith on God’s promises, or when I look around and see that I have people like you that speak life into me and pray for me and Christy and the LCI team, I feel bolstered in the things I feel God has called us to and I become encouraged and feel at peace.

All that to say I want to thank you for your prayers, financial support and your encouraging words this year, as these are the things that have kept us going. I know many people are experiencing tough times and are unsure of their future, but I want to encourage you that God is bigger than the stock market our any of our problems. I want to challenge you to not shrink back into fear and worry, but to love more, pray more and give more… seek to daily make your life count in God’s economy. Lets go forth, be strong and courageous, and go and Bring Life to the Nations!

Grace and peace,

Scotland
Our last trip of 2008 was in September when we went to Alva, Scotland.  We asked for your prayers for a God-ordained time, as we visited and ministered to the Fraser family and their church there.  It turned out to be a great trip, and we truly enjoyed being able to come alongside our friends, Dave and Elizabeth, as they continue to pour themselves out in their community.  Our team helped them with their after school kids club program; did outreach in the town of Stirling with the Jesus Booth; were a part of prayer events with Clackmannanshire United Prayer group; and I was also able to teach Sunday morning at Alva Baptist Church.  All in all, the trip did much to encourage each team member, but also offered much-needed encouragement and support to the work the Fraser’s are doing for God’s Kingdom in Scotland.

Life Connections International-November 2008 Update

November 27th, 2008

Dear Friends,

Last month saw me traveling to different parts of the South.

For part of October I was in Atlanta for the Fellowship of Short-Term Missions Leaders Conference. This was my first time to attend this event, and I was very grateful to be able to get some great information from the conference.  One of the takeaways that I believe will specifically benefit this ministry was information about discipleship for participants of our various trips. This year I’m looking forward to using the discipleship information along with some other things I learned at the conference.

After attending the conference I traveled to Franklin, Tenn., and Birmingham, Ala.   In each of these cities I was able to connect with some friends and share the ministry of LCI with potential partners.

We have not been going on any mission trips recently, but instead we have been gearing up for next year.  We have been working on our mission, strategy and schedule for 2009.   All of this information has been updated on our website (www.lcibringlife.org), so please stop by and check out what is in store for the next year.

I know this has been a tough financial time for many people, so please know that your support means so much to us.  As a prayer request, I’d appreciate your prayers for Christy’s health and for our desire to have a baby. For the ministry, I’d ask you to pray for the provision we need to fulfill the vision we believe God has called us to.

May the Lord bless you and keep you,

October 2008- Life Connections International Update

October 18th, 2008

Dear Friends,

This time last month we were asking for your prayers for a God-ordained time, as we visited and ministered to the Fraser family and their church in Alva, Scotland.  It turned out to be a great trip, and we truly enjoyed being able to come alongside our friends, Dave and Elizabeth, as they pour themselves out in their community.

We helped them with their after school kids club program; we did outreach in the town of Stirling with the Jesus Booth; we were a part of prayer events with Clackmannanshire United Prayer group; and I was also able to teach Sunday morning at Alva Baptist Church.  All in all, the trip did much to encourage each team member, but also offered much-needed encouragement and support to the work the Frasers are doing for Gods Kingdom in Scotland.

Id ask you to please continue to pray for LCI, as we are launching in to a new phase of ministry.  We have seen a need for fellowship, prayer and encouragement for Pastors wives and ladies who are in leadership positions in ministry here on the Westside of Los Angeles.   My wife Christy and a few other ladies will host a ladies tea Oct. 25.  It will be a time for women to have the opportunity to be refreshed and encouraged.

Also, I am on my way to Atlanta, Nashville and Birmingham this month to meet with potential partners for LCI.  While I am in Atlanta, Im looking forward to the opportunity to be a part of a Short-Term Mission Leaders Conference.

As always, we thank you for your partnership to this ministry. It means so much to us, especially in these tough economic times.  Please dont hesitate to contact us with ways that we can be praying for you and your family.

May the Lord bless you and keep you,

Life Connections Intl. Newsletter July-September 2008

August 28th, 2008

Dear Friends,
I hope you are doing well and that you enjoyed your summer.  Let me open this letter by saying thank you!  Thank you for your prayers; thank you for your financial support to LCI and those you have helped to go on one of our trips; thank you for being physically involved in Life Connections International either by going on a trip our just helping us by volunteering at one of our Bring Life events.
As I read my Bible it is amazing to see how many times it says to either be thankful our to rejoice! I am beginning to truly understand the discipline it takes to be a thankful person. It is very easy for us to think negatively or be discontent with the circumstances we find ourselves in.  At times we dwell on what we do not have, always thinking that the grass is greener on the other side.  But how many of us are consciously making an effort to be thankful for what God has given us and what He has done for us?
One of the fruits that we often see when people go on missions trips with LCI is that they come back reassessing their lives.   Oftentimes it’s the little things in life that they realize they have been taking for granted: clean water to drink, shoes to wear, shelter over their heads; they begin to realize they don’t have it so bad.  But they are also challenged by the rich joy and true gratefulness of the people we work with in these countries. They may not have much in the material sense, but they are very rich spiritually and they are grateful for the little they do have.
We can learn a lot from these people. Our hope and prayer is that we can build bridges to see lives changed: for those who go on our trips and for those that we interact with while sharing the love of God in word or deed.   We want be in the business of bringing life, and in some cases that means helping the body wake up and become a thankful people.
Thanks again for your support! Let’s go forth and bring life to the nations!

Costa Rica
July Costa Rica trip report by Vicki Vlachakis:
My mission trip to Costa Rica this July was an opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone and get a first hand experience of God’s plan in that country. Our team from LCI partnered with Missions Impossible International, an organization run by Phil Jones.  Phil is an inspirational character who was led to serve within a poor community called the Precario outside of San Jose, the capital.  We served alongside Phil and helped in the “Rancho,” a former shelter in the poor community that has been cleverly converted to a facility that accommodates a variety of needs, including health care, Bible study gatherings, and outreach events.
The most impactful part of our mission was interacting with the people in the Precario and being available to listen, relate and even play with them.  We also had an opportunity to meet the Jane Jones Beca students.  They are high school-aged youth from various poor communities in the San Jose area including the Precario.  It was a truly special experience to witness how God provides light and hope in their challenging and distracting environments.
It will be hard to view my vacation time the same after this mission trip.  Very few could live up to the adventure and lasting impact this had on me, and those I met.
Golf Tournament
On June 30, 2008 LCI held its first fundraising golf tournament at the Malibu Country Club.  A total of 52 golfers participated, which was a real blessing.  The first place team was lead by Tyler’s dad, Ted Lennon, and his team from Stone Eagle in Indian Wells, Calif.  It was nice to have him be able to play, and funny to have his dad win the first tournament. LCI was really blessed by all the support given from friends and family of the ministry.  Also, a big thanks to all of the sponsors: Stone Eagle Golf Resort; Face the Music; Westside Shepherd of the Hills Church; Vivitar; Double Edge Creative; and Waters, McClusky and Boehle Law Firm.
Mexico
August Mexico trip report by Kiuk Kaya Lee who has been on the trip before:
Thank you for your prayers.  They are truly so powerful.  I had a wonderful time once again; it was truly amazing.  God is always at work.
I think prayer and missions are a way for us to be blessed to be a part of what God is accomplishing.   The entire trip is always orchestrated by God to minister to the children as well as each of us in attendance.  This trip we spent time with the children and did work projects to help the physical building – such as painting/drywall and paving the driveway with gravel.  What was so great was just watching God work and orchestrate everything so perfectly. All He needs are willing vessels.  We were able to play with the children, feed them lunch and just hang out – even longer than we had originally anticipated.
I used to always think that missions were about doing work and painting walls or building something – about having a tangible product that shows what you did for Him.  God just really showed me that serving Him is not always about accomplishments and painted walls, but about people and relationships. It was as much or more ministering to me than any ministering I felt I was doing at City of Angels.  I am such a work in progress in Him and going on these missions trips are also about Him showing me His heart through these children as well as His desires for me.
Malibu Surf Movie and Contest
LCI was one of the ministry partners that came along side Malibu Christian Surfing Association in its fourth annual “Surf Classic” on Aug. 23 at Zuma Beach in Malibu, Calif.  The night before on Aug. 22, Walking on Water productions, Malibu Ministries and Calvary Chapel Malibu hosted the Malibu premiere of its latest film “Walking on Water.”  Both events turned out great: a real sense of community was built and solid relationships were established. The film theme fit with what opened this newsletter. Professional surfer Brian Jennings took two young, up-and-coming surfers on a trip to show them amazing surf spots around the world.  More importantly, though, they got to see what God was doing in the lives of other young people around the world. They witnessed the joy of young Christians from South Africa to an orphanage in Peru. These two kids were impacted in a great way in their faith and were able to see their world in a completely new way. The surf contest the following day was also wonderful.  It was good to see the great turn out with the local families and the support MCSA received from different sponsors. Building community and building relationships is such an important key to building God’s Kingdom – and these two events did that.
Scotland
A team of five people are heading to Alva, Scotland, to work with David and Elizabeth Fraser Aug. 31 – Sept. 8.  The team will be working with their youth, encouraging the churches in the community and will be involved in a prayer and worship event with several churches and ministries in the area on Sept. 6. Please pray that they will be an encouragement and blessing to the community of Alva and to the Fraser family.

Introduction
Dear Friend,

In the days preceding Billy Graham’s last crusade in New York City, I had the privilege of heading up a team of volunteers who served the residents of that city in a variety of different ways.  The Life Connections’ team joined with mission teams from all over the United States as the Body of Christ demonstrated the love of God through acts of service and kindness. Though our team was only a small part of something much larger, all who participated sensed God’s blessing as the Church came together as one. It was an amazing time.

This experience in New York only served to underscore a calling upon our ministry that began to unfold over 10 years ago . . . a calling to facilitate multi-faceted events that would unite the Body of Christ with acts of service, worship and prayer. At Life Connections, we refer to these events as Bring Life Events.

At the very center of every Bring Life Event is a heart-felt demonstration of unity between local churches and ministries as the host city is blanketed with visible evidence of God’s love for all humanity.  Each church and ministry flows within it’s specific calling as we sponsor prayer summits, worship events, film festivals, pastor conferences and workshops. In so doing, new relationships are developed, the community of believers is encouraged and strengthened, and the Body of Christ learns to walk as one.

Beginning May 1st, and ending May 11th, Life Connections is sponsoring a Bring Life Event called Pray of Los Angeles 2008.  There will be multiple prayer gatherings in various locations around the city, including a Pastor Prayer Summit on May 6th-7th.  We will host the 2nd annual Pray for LA 5K on May 3rd. There will also be a variety of opportunities for people to serve those in need.

It is our hope and prayer that from this Bring Life Event will develop long-term relationships between pastors of different churches and ministry leaders. We pray that a fire of unity would be lit that would continue burning for many years to come; that Los Angeles would truly become a visible answer to Jesus’ prayer when He asked the Father that those who followed Him might be “perfected in unity, that the world may know that You sent Me, and that You love them, even as You have loved Me” (John 17:23).

This is the calling upon Life Connections . . . to Bring Life.  Please pray for us as we step into this calling . . .  as the Lord stretches us in delightfully new ways.  And as always, thank you for your continued support as we go forth and Bring Life to the nations!

Bring Life Campaigns!

Bring Life Campaigns!

Ten years ago I was reading Billy Grahams autobiography of his life and ministry. As I read about the impact of his evangelistic ministry in cities around the world and how it brought the body of Christ together to impact cities. I had a strong impression in my heart that the Lord wanted to do some of the same things he was doing in some of Dr. Grahams Crusades. But it would look a little different than the traditional crusade events. We know through scripture the Lords heart beat for the Body of Christ, in John 17:23 Jesus was praying to the Father, may they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you have sent me. What would that look like to see the body in complete unity? What is the fruit of that unity? The world knowing that Jesus is Lord! We know that a spiritual war is on in our cities. We know that a huge part of the enemies plan is to keep the Body of Christ disunified. We know that a house divided will not stand. I know that Billy Graham knew that a huge part of the success of his crusades was the body coming together for the cause of the gospel. The heart of Bring Life Campaigns would be to ignite the Body of Christ locally and abroad to come and focus on a local city where you would have a multiple of churches, Para-churches and mission teams Blanketing the city with service and the love of God. Each church and ministry has there specific calling in how they can flow in there service to the different communities and we would not have to micro manage that we just allow people to flow in there gifting. But the challenge is to have everybody on the same page. When I brought a team to serve in New York City during Billy Grahams last crusade it was an amazing thing to see mission teams from all over the country serving in the city and being part of a bigger event. It brought a kind of camaraderie to the teams. During the Bring Life Campaigns there would be a multiple of worship events, film festivals, conferences and workshops going on all over the city. Which we would like to see bless the local body also at some point there would be a bigger worship event that would bring us all together and worship and praise God for what he has done in the city. Out of this we would hope and pray that long-term relationships are established with the Pastors in the community and there churches where they would continue keeping the fire burning and seeking the Lord in how they as the Body can reach there city and the Nations and be an example of what it truly means to love each other.
